Labour Doula Services
Benefits of a Doula
Dimensions of Labour support
What is support
Doulas & medicated births
Doulas & Partners
As your Doula I will…
Meet with you prior to your birth to identify your personal priorities for the birth.
During the prenatal visits we will become acquainted and develop a relationship so that you are comfortable with my presence. We will explore and discuss your priorities, any fears or concerns, and plan how we might best work together.
Assist you in making a birth plan
I will need to know your preferences regarding management options, the use of pain medications and I will help you make a birth plan. I will also want to know your own best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how we foresee working together.
Accompany you through labour at home and/or hospital
During labour I will provide emotional and physical support such as:
Offer you objective information to help you make informed decisions
Act as an advocate within the team of care providers
Support you in your choices
Postpartum support
After the birth I will remain with you for 1 - 2 hours until you are comfortable and ready for some quiet time alone. I will also assist with your baby's first breastfeed.
Home support
I will do a home visit possibly the day you come home from hospital or any day you choose to help with getting settled, baby care questions, breastfeeding or any other concerns.
Always work with a team of back-up doulas
As your doula I will be working for you not the hospital or the care providers
